BigQuery, Google Cloud’s Data Warehouse, Integrates 11 Additional Blockchains

Google Cloud’s BigQuery service has expanded its data warehouse by adding 11 blockchain networks. The networks that have been included are Avalanche, Arbitrum, Cronos, Ethereum’s Görli testnet, Fantom, Near, Optimism, Polkadot, Polygon’s mainnet, Polygon’s Mumbai testnet, and Tron. This move aims to enhance Google Cloud’s blockchain data offering and provide more precise, accurate, and reliable datasets.

BigQuery, a data warehouse service provided by Google, allows enterprise firms to store their data and make queries. It offers various public datasets that can be accessed, including Google Trends, American Community Service demographic information, Google Analytics, and more. In 2018, Google introduced a Bitcoin dataset to BigQuery and later added Ethereum as well. The coverage expanded further in February 2019 with the inclusion of Bitcoin Cash, Dash, Dogecoin, Ethereum Classic, Litecoin, and Zcash. With the recent addition, BigQuery now supports a total of 19 blockchain networks.

In addition to the new blockchain additions, Google has also introduced a feature to facilitate easier execution of blockchain queries. Through user-defined functions, the team has provided methods to handle long-form decimal results commonly found on blockchains. The aim is to offer customers access to longer decimal digits for their blockchain data and minimize rounding errors in computation.

Throughout 2023, Google Cloud has been showing increased interest in blockchain technology. It formed partnerships with Lightning Network infrastructure provider Voltage on July 7 and Web3 startup Orderly Network on September 14 to support decentralized finance with off-chain components.

It is notable that this article includes an embedded Twitter post from Google Cloud announcing the inclusion of the 11 blockchain networks in BigQuery. The article also includes a subscription form for a newsletter related to decentralized finance.
